The rope to heaven

It was very dark, and all I know was I must keep going as stopping for even a short 5 minutes could induce my physical body to give up. I looked up at the dark sky and the stars were sparkling. I felt so close to the stars and it was an awesome feeling. The only guide available for me to follow was a white rope.

In the rope I trusted, and slowly but surely, I finally reached Low's peak of Mount Kinabalu at 4,095 meters above sea level. It was fantastic to be walking above the clouds. Is there such a rope in life? As I was climbing, I thought of a friend who is hospitalised and struggling. I would like to dedicate my climb to him. I reached the summit at 5.30am on the 26th December and he passed away at 7.30pm on the 27th December. Friend, may you be well, may you be happy, may you be peaceful, and may you be free from enmity.

Mamma Mia!

Rave reviews and touted as the top-selling west end musical. I definitely agree.

I've not watched such an entertaining performance in a very long time. I'd recommend this to anyone who like heart-warming as well as hilarious musical. The show started with this number ...

I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream

I have a dream, a fantasy
To help me through reality
And my destination makes it worth the while
Pushing through the darkness still another mile
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream

Wishes, hopes, and dreams ...... isn't it nice if life could just turn out like a fantasy and fairy tale. And I guess people keep returning to watch Mamma Mia because the story portrays something so beautiful that all of us yearn to live in that world, a world where there is a happy and joyful ending. The excellent singing and dancing took the audience down the memory lane, the ABBA era. Perhaps also providing us with a temporary reprieve from reality. The show ended with the same song ..... I have a dream (go on, keep singing) .....

Tengoku - 天国

Tengoku (天国) interpreted as "Heavenly Kingdom", a place where there are no miseries, a place where people can go to resolve unfinished business with their loved ones, a place where one can find one's destiny, a place where we reunite with our loved ones, a place people desire in their afterlife ......

In this movie, the pianist resolved her unfinished business with her lover in tengoku, as a result her lover was vindicated as he has been carrying the guilt for causing an accident that took her life. Another young lady met her dead little brother to resolve her guilt over her assumed responsibility for causing his death.

We feel vindicated when the knot in us is untied, and we are able to let go the burden and live a more fulfilling life. Sometimes we feel stuck not knowing how to untie this knot .... and then fall into the trap of depression and hopelessness. 天国 (paradise, heaven, promise land, being with god, and all other similar terms) gives us that spiritual connection, and gives us hope that one day, everything will be fine. No, not only fine but beautiful, full of wonder, and everlasting happiness.

Perfectly happy ..... or is it?

Me: I intend to stay this way as I'm perfectly happy, and ...
Friend: No, Fung, you're not perfectly happy, you're just ...... fine. Yeah, you're only fine.
Me: Ermm .....

You know, maybe she's right .... or is she?

Dog in a sidecar サイドカーに犬

"Not loving someone you like is much easier than liking someone you love". I started crying when Yoko was slapped, and when she left the house. I felt her pain. When the movie ended, I cried, and cried ....... and then a really powerful realisation came to me. Now I understand why ......

RM200

What can we buy with RM200 a month? A 70+ year old mother told me that she has 2 daughters to look after. One paralysed and the other diagnosed with cancer. Yes, she has to make do with just RM200 per month.
